Cette cicatrice est entre autres form\u00e9e de cellules appel\u00e9es microglies. Dans un contexte \u00ab normal \u00bb, ces cellules surveillent le syst\u00e8me nerveux central, dont la moelle \u00e9pini\u00e8re, et sont capables de r\u00e9agir rapidement pour le prot\u00e9ger contre diff\u00e9rents types d\u2019attaques. Cependant, apr\u00e8s une l\u00e9sion de la moelle \u00e9pini\u00e8re, une partie de ces cellules prolif\u00e8rent tr\u00e8s rapidement et jouent un r\u00f4le n\u00e9faste.
